Sometimes I forget to do warmups, because y'know.. there's never time. And then I sit there struggling thru work with "cold" hands wondering why the hell I can't draw anymore. Last night I remembered! So here's a warmup of sorts that turned into a portrait.. of sorts.

..what it is. The last cover, even though we still have 5 issues to put out.

And hey lookit, Clay's posted all 8 up at the Image forums. Kinda fun to see the progression, I've definitely learned a lot about painting and my process along the way.

Still got a lot to learn, but it's gratifying that the first cover is the "worst" one. Apparently 6 is everyone's fave, despite the fact that I had to turn out those colors overnight and it's at best 25% done... haha. I've got a lot of work to do on it before the actual issue 6 goes out. Oh well.
I'll cobble together the scraps for this cover for the next post hopefully.

*ps - that "QB" graf is supposed to read "CB" - but I am lame. Sorry, Be. I'll fix it for print!

Some scraps from issue 5, just like it says, nothing fancy, very scrappy.

Cover to the last issue (8/8) and/or scraps for it next time. It's a little strange to be doing the final cover, but it's my favorite one I think. More my vibe than the others I've done - although I had a lot of fun designing Issue 5's poster cover too.

Tonight's life drawing - only threw out one drawing! Model was great, and there were cookies - Oreo AND chocolate chip. Not a bad night at all.

First row are 5 minute poses, last 3 are 25 minutes. Scraps.. next time! Oddly enough scraps actually take a bit of time to organize together in a presentable fashion. Who knew? :(

Just saw the teaser for the Spirit. Is it just me, or is this basically Sin City, with the Sin City/300 font. There's nothing particularly Spirit-y or Will Eisnery about it.. at all.

In other news - '76 #3 is officially coming out this Wednesday... finally. As I've mentioned before, we've had it in the can for months now, so if readers had the idea that anyone on the creative team was behind the delay, we weren't.

I might be the one who holds up Issue 5 if I don't get back to work though, so... yeap. Back to work for me. I'll probably post up some scraps from it next time, I'm pretty damn happy with how it's turning out.

Cover to Issue 7, 95ish% done, good enough for Previews, and gonna sit like this while I catch up on pages, and on a gazillion other things. Cool beans. Issue 6 cover... still in the works, if that makes any sense. I'd worry about spoilers, but nobody really reads these things anyway, or our book, which is still somehow MIA... and I still don't own a single copy of. Yeah. I don't know. *shrug* Cover was fun for me though, I hope that shows. Couple old studies for good measure.

...sometimes the only things that make sense in life are a runaway, a cross-dressing hobo who wants to be a mother, and an alcoholic gambling addict. Hustling on some things, so here's a couple oldies. Miyuki from Satoshi Kon's brilliantly multi-layered Tokyo Godfathers. Probably one of my favorite films of all time, animated or otherwise. There's a lot you only notice on 2nd or 3rd viewings.

I'd posted the (hastily) toned version on my LJ, so here's the ink version so I'm only 1/2 cheating? Also a Hulk doodle I never scanned in, in which he reveals his love for a particular flavor of frozen treat.

I think I may have had things I wanted to write about, but I'm too scatterbrained and behind on.. life. Maybe next time.

So we're gonna try to do this update-y thing at least once a week. Hopefully I'll have a few things every week, maybe just one... but expect to see a lot of scraps and old stuff when I don't! Here's another Sophia, been sitting at this stage for a few days now, which usually means I won't be back to it for a long long while, so there she is. A Peter Pan thingy for the same DrawingBoard thread as Alice, and some head studies. Working on expressions.

Also, '76 #3 is late, I'm not entirely clear on why, suffice to say that we've had it written and drawn for months so... *shrug* I hope the 10 people reading it enjoy it as much as we enjoyed creating it! The scripts for both are great and different enough to balance out well, and the stuff Tigh's doing is an education to me everytime I see pages.

On an unrelated side note, I sure am glad the government is making laws to make sure we all get HD television broadcasts. Everytime I see those commercials I get a warm, fuzzy feeling inside my tummy and bluejays chirp outside my window, as if by magical impulse! It's almost like the world/this country is completely fine and we *don't* have anything more impo-- .... well anyway, it's good to know they're on top of that HD thing.

Here's something I started maybe 2 years ago. Retooled and finished up for ye olde DrawingBoard. Older, very aborted versions: 1 | 2. I was in a "hey that halftone filter is pretty cool" phase, as you can see. I left some of that underneath the new version.

...maybe. Just playing around with this tonight, very very rough of course, but uhm, I feel bad about not updating. Although, I guess this is more graphic design than actual art. All the images are placeholders for now while I tweak and retweak the design to death, as is my custom. Rawr -due to the holiday egg nog affecting the printing/shipping schedule, I've found out that '76 #1 will actually be appearing 1 or 2 weeks later than the solicited January 9th date. Every issue afterwards will ship according to the original first-week-of-the-month schedule.

Newsarama '76 Interview Part 1 - Clay and I answer some questions and Clay is highly amusing. Also, pages.
